Kenai Fjords

Back to Tours

This tour travels southeast down the turnagain arm, following the railroad tracks through Trail Creek to Moose Pass, a quick swing by beautiful Crescent Lake and other turquoise colored lakes on the way to Seward. Passing Seward we head over to the Kenai Fjords National Park with it's many glaciers, glacier lakes, floating icebergs, icefalls, steep vegetation covered peninsula ridges and fjords. The shades of green and blue here are unique to this area and is different from those we see in Prince William Sound.

After viewing most of the glaciers on the Gulf of Alaska side we climb to 5,000 ft to get over the expansive Harding Icefield. This icefield is over 300 square miles of glacier ice over 2000 feet thick and one of the lowest icefields in the world. We descend over Tustumena Glacier on the Kenai side and along the Kenai Peninsula back to Anchorage. Along the way we usually see Dall sheep, bears, moose, Mountain goats, and sometimes caribou. Once we were treated to a Brown Bear actually chasing the caribou herd.....
