Eagle Glacier

Back to Tours

This tour travels northeast to the Eagle River community just outside of Anchorage then east up the Eagle River Valley offering magnificent mountain views, rugged cliffs, waterfalls, glacier lakes and rivers, the Eagle Glacier and several smaller glaciers. Depending on the weather or customer preference from the Eagle Glacier we can fly either north through the Eklutna area viewing a large Glacier lake and the Eklutna glacier then along Hwy 1 returning to Anchorage OR fly south through Crow Creek Pass viewing additional small glacier ponds and several small glaciers then into the Girdwood/ Alyeska ski resort area and back to Anchorage giving city and surrounding views like those in the Anchorage Scenic tour.

The Eagle River Valley is teeming with Mountain Goats, Dall sheep and Black bears. There is a very high probability of seeing these animals on this tour. Sometimes we are able to see Brown bears as well although this is mostly in the Spring as they come out of their dens and head for the river valley or in the Fall as they head back up the mountain in preparation for the long winter's sleep called hibernation. The Brown bears will linger on the mountain slopes eating berries before they enter their den.

This is a wonderful tour most of the year but sometimes the glaciers on this tour get lots of snow cover in the winter making it difficult to see what a glacier looks like---if conditions are this way we will be sure to advise you so you can opt for another tour---a great winter tour for glacier viewing is the Knik Glacier as these glaciers are lower and windswept with stunning blues even in winter.
